Todd A. Smith will speak at the Houston Association of Black Journalists annual Student Mentorship Breakfast Saturday, December, 1, 2012 at 8:30 AM at the Houston Chronicle: 801 Texas Avenue. The event is open to students who RSVP for the event. Smith will participate in a panel discussion on how to make yourself indispensable in the newsroom and building skills for the new world of journalism.
Being an online magazine publisher makes Smith ideal for this panel. He will discuss how to write articles so that they are permanent advertising tools and how to merge search engine optimization rules with traditional journalistic standards.
As a college professor, he is also ideal for inspiring students and preparing them for professional life. On the panel with Smith will be Nick Matthews and Joy Sewing of the Houston Chronicle. Houston Chronicle sports columnist Jerome Solomon will moderate the panel. For more information on the event visit www.habj.org.
