On Monday, Feb. 5, multimedia personality Todd A. Smith (Regal Media Group, LLC) returned to “The Pursuit of Happiness” radio show on KPRC (950 AM) in Houston with host Ken Webster Jr. to discuss Justin Timberlake’s Super Bowl halftime show, cultural appropriation of “Black music” and Cardi B’s decision to boycott future Super Bowls until former pro quarterback Colin Kaepernick is signed by an NFL team.
Smith stated that “Black music” is so entrenched in the America fabric that non-Black artists are forced to appropriate “Black music.”
Furthermore, the RMG CEO stated that Black artists have appropriated non-Black music for years also. The Beatles and Three Dog Night influenced Michael Jackson, and the Jackson 5 got their harmony style from groups like the Carpenters.
In addition, the low-rider culture made popular on record by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg has its roots in Latino culture.
