Should Interracial Couples Jump Broom at Weddings? Smith Discusses on ‘Isiah’

On July 6, multimedia executive Todd A. Smith joined a panel of experts on “Isiah Factor Uncensored” to discuss interracial couples jumping the broom at weddings.

During slavery, African-Americans were not allowed to legally marry.

Therefore, couples would jump the broom to symbolize their union.

However, Smith said the tradition of jumping the broom for couples who could not legally marry was never exclusive to African-Americans.
